The Valley’s identity mark is no doubt Roncal cheese. A cheese with a hardy, strong and slightly spicy taste. The Pyrenees treasure.
A Starlight Destination: The Roncal Valley has been certified by the Starlight Foundation as a “Starlight Tourism Destination” because of the excellent quality sky. It boasts the perfect setting for taking in the stars at night.
There was once an extensive network of paths interconnecting the various territories and those which were somewhat official were known as “Caminos Reales” (royal paths).
The Roncal Valley Camino Real is a well-marked trail that starts in Burgui and takes you all the way to the Zuberoa Valley in France. One particular stretch was known as the “Swallow Route” where women would walk to the Mauleón area to work making rope soled sandals.
